RAF Northolt Nightshoots

2009

Building on the success of the recent summertime photocalls, Phil Dawe and his team at RAF Northolt decided to organise a nightshoot on 29 January 2009, and very successful it was too. So successful in fact, that it led to a series of nightshoots throughout the year. All were very relaxed gatherings, with plenty of space and time to photograph the aircraft, including some with rotors running and/or arriving and departing during the course of the evening. Proceeds from the events are going towards the restoration of the Battle of Britain Ops Room at RAF Northolt, which was the prototype for the standard design Sector Ops Room rolled out across the UK in the 1930s. The plan is to restore it to how it was back then, complete with plotting table, tote boards etc. Click/tap on the images below to view them full size.
