Nick's Cameras

This is the camera equipment I use:

My main camera is a Canon EOS 30D, with an older EOS D30 as backup. I love being able to download my shots as soon as I get home - much better than waiting for films to be processed, with the variability in results that produces, not to mention the occasional lost film. Being able to check the results immediately (including a histogram) is also very useful, as is being able to use AEB without worrying about using loads of film! Upgrading to digital was easy because I already had two EOS 50E bodies, so all my lenses are compatible with the 30D and D30. I am a big Canon SLR fan - the cameras are a delight to handle, and the autofocus is absolutely superb (very fast and accurate).

The lenses I use give me full coverage from wide angle (17mm) right up to long telephoto (500mm) and the whole setup is rather practical and portable, without losing functionality - ideal for airshows! For static work I use the EF-S 17-85mm zoom (equivalent to a 28-135mm zoom in 35mm terms). The wide focal length range means I rarely have to change lens while walking around. For most flying shots I use the EF 75-300mm zoom, with the Sigma 170-500mm zoom for longer range work. I plan on replacing the Sigma with a Canon 100-400 IS USM zoom due to its better quality and faster autofocus. I have considered using prime lenses due to their superior quality, but for aviation work I decided that the flexibility of zooms far outweighs the small increase in lens quality of primes.
